2022

Saturday 23th April

10am - noon

Pond Day
There should be plenty of tadpoles, newts, water beetles, pond skaters and caddis larvae to discover. Pond trays, nets and help with identifications should be available.

Sunday 8th May

5am

Dawn Chorus
Meet under the Gazebo at 4:45 - 5:00am. This time of year is rich in bird song so come and hear the symphony and help identify the birds.

Saturday 11th June

10am - noon

Wild Flower and Pollinator Day
With the help of warm, dry weather the Pasture will look its prettiest in June. Wild flowers, grasses and insects will bring the Pasture alive. There will be booklets and advisors available to identify finds.

Saturday 16th July

10am - noon

Dragonfly Morning
As part of Dragonfly Week, we will be looking to identify our impressive Damsel and Dragonflies visitors. They are active over our large pond. Dragonflies particularly should also be seen defending their territory.

Saturday 23rd July

10am - noon

Butterfly Morning
If the weather is warm and dry we should see many of the species already recorded on the Pasture. Maybe even some new visitors.

Saturday 6th August

10am - noon

Blackberry Picking Begins
This is the official start of the pick which may last through to September. Bring your own containers and make a donation at the entrance. Please take care with the brambles and try not to trample the hedges as they are a habitat for birds and mammals.

Saturday 27th August

10am - noon

Moth Morning
Overnight into 27th August we will set up the Moth invitation contraption. From 10am to 12 midday we will try to identify those visitors. We then release them. The count will be reported to The National Moth Centre.

Saturday 17th September

10am - noon

Spiders and Bugs Hunt
At this time of year the Pasture should be alive with grasshoppers, spiders and other creatures. This is a chance to discover more about insects and to observe the wasp spider (which doesn't sting).

Saturday 19th November

10am - noon

Tree Caring Day
The Pasture will not be planting any more trees - we now have enough, but we will be weeding and mulching around those we have and generally preparing them for the winter. You may even find some hazelnuts.
Natural History should be on the School Curriculum, be ahead of the game and let the Pasture show you Nature’s Celebrities.

More information on how you can help can be found on the Get Involved page.
